La Tuba
Música Colombiana.
In Colombia
due to the increase in musical schools in the different towns of the country during the last 20 years
it has risen the number of formal tuba students
improving the technical level of the performers of this instrument. This leads to the need of involving the instrument in its role as soloist in academic music
international and traditional repertoire. This work has as purpose to make relevant the soloist´s role in the instrument playing of Colombian traditional rhythms
and also to get the interest to the composers of the Colombian music. This paper contains six arrangements with different instrumental formats
where the tuba presents its solo role in various Colombian traditional airs transcribed and adapted by some graduate students in composition and prominent composers of this music; besides
it contains scores of arrangements and formal analysis of each one of the works and interviews that have been done to great tuba masters with the objective of providing basis to that relation. With this work we want to show a new tuba facet
where it achieves a soloist role in the traditional Colombian music and generate new spaces in which composers and performers make new proposals in order to highlight the importance of our composers of Colombian music and also to set an interest for future works
where methods of studying can be applied to the instrument taking into account melodies of the traditional Colombian folklore.
