Description
Summary:This research proposal is planned to explore the impact of emotional intelligence (EI) theories that can be applied to the learning of English as a second language (L2), with a focus on developing both the cognitive and emotional development of young children, aged 4 to 7. The study will be performed at an international kindergarten located in Xiamen, China, where cultural traditions tend to disconnect emotions and learning. Using a mixed-methods approach, the classroom activities will be designed and tested, aimed at improving L2 skills through emotional engagement, considering that the data will be collected through pre-tests and post- tests for quantitative analysis, as well as interviews and observations to gather qualitative insights. The research is expected to show that the integration of emotional intelligence-based activities can have a positive impact on L2 acquisition and improve general emotional well- being. The findings will also be a great tool for teachers training programs, especially for future students of CECAR’s Bachelor's in English, giving the knowledge to promote innovative approaches to L2 teaching.
