Building on research like Paul J. Heald’s, which suggest that extended copyrights can reduce book availability as publishers stop printing unsold works, the study uses two datasets from Amazon.com (2015 and 2023). The results show that, on average, copyrighted books have fewer printed editions compared to those in the public domain.
