Con el fin de evidenciar la funcionalidad de las gónadas de híbridos de Rayaque (Pseudoplatystoma metaense x Leiarius marmoratus), fueron medidos los niveles plasmáticos de testosterona (T), estradiol (E2) y cortisol, utilizando los kits comerciales Acculite CLIA microwells (Monobind Inc. ®) Testosterone Kit System 3775-300, estradiol Kit System 4975-300 y cortisol Kit System 3675-300. La lectura final se llevó a cabo en el equipo LumiStat 4100 Plus de Awareness Technology, Inc. ®. Se extrajo una muestra de sangre a cada individuo (n=10) que fue procesada y analizada cada 40-45 días y durante 8 muestreos. Los niveles plasmáticos de T fueron más bajos en las hembras (0,01 a 0,35 ng/ml) y en los machos se registraron niveles altos de junio a julio (0,65 ng/ml), relacionados. Con los periodos de mayor pluviosidad en la región que desencadena el inicio de la temporada reproductiva. Los niveles de E2 fueron mayores en las hembras (0,88 ng/ml), posiblemente asociados con la maduración ovárica y actividad de la aromatasa. En tanto que los machos muestran descensos (0,1 ng/ml) para junio- julio, con un incremento posterior alcanzando un valor máximo de 0,7 ng/ml.
