A diferencia de la metodología tradicional, este es un sistema flexible capaz de responder rápida y eficazmente a los cambios en la dinámica del mercado y generar actualizaciones de pronóstico una y otra vez contrastando con las metodologías convencionales ejecutadas mediante modelos estadísticos que no están dotados para enfrentar tanto dinamismo. El objeto principal del presente documento es ilustrar al lector sobre cuáles son las principales actividades que debe realizar una organización para aplicar el sistema Demand Driven, DD, y así poder establecer una política de inventario que sustituya las reglas habituales, obteniendo resultados como la reducción de los costos de almacenamiento, pérdidas por faltantes, obsoletos y/o vencidos, incremento del retorno sobre la inversión, disminución del capital invertido en inventarios y como consecuencia directa incremento del nivel de servicio al cliente.A methodology that has been taking strength in the industrial, productive and service environment is the demand driven forecasting, this tool allows organizations to execute inventory planning along the supply chain and change to a Pull-type production system, based on real demand and adjusted to consumer and market behavior.
