description Este documento analizó la relación y las causas del crecimiento de la actividad minera en el mundo así como de sus productos, materias primas y minerales. Esto ha conducido al aumento en la inversión en este sector en donde en muchos casos no se han implementado prácticas necesarias y adecuadas para que se desarrolle como una actividad sostenible. Es por esto que la minería ha sido concebida como una actividad dañina, innecesaria y no sostenible bajo conceptos ambientales y sociales. Adicionalmente, este documento pretende conocer las distintas políticas, principios, conceptos y prácticas de minería en materia de desarrollo sostenible y la viabilidad para su implementación en las empresas mineras actuales en pro de un proceso de modernización y tecnificación que sea responsable con la sociedad y el medio ambiente. Por otra parte, se analizó la interrelación entre el comercio internacional, las industrias, los estados o países, y hasta los mismos individuos como actores importantes y corresponsables de la problemática del auge de la actividad minera y sus efectos. En el caso Colombiano, se encontró que la informalidad e ilegalidad de la minería, así como el contexto social y la falta de control del gobierno, son causas directas de la no ejecución de una minería sostenible, aunque con algunas iniciativas recientes pero con un reto sostenible muy grande en el sector.

This has led to increased investment in this sector where in many cases they have not been implemented correctly for it to develop as a sustainable activity. That is why mining has been conceived as a harmful, unnecessary and unsustainable activity under environmental and social concepts. Additionally, this document aims to present the different policies, principles, concepts and practices of mining in sustainable development and their feasibility for implementation in existing mining companies towards a process of modernization and technology that is responsible with society and environment. Moreover, relationships between international trade, industries, states, or countries are analyzed, and individuals as important agents of the problem of mining boom and its impacts. In Colombia, it was found that the informal and illegal mining, the social context and the lack of government control, are direct causes of non-implementation of sustainable mining.
