Esta área cuenta con una flota de aeronaves entre aviones y helicópteros, personal de la institución formados como Pilotos y Técnicos que cumplen con los requerimientos de operación y mantenimiento. La Oficina de Ingeniería Aeronáutica aparece dentro del proceso de mantenimiento, lo cual conlleva a que se establezcan funciones y procedimientos. Para desarrollar esta tarea, se inicia con realizar un estudio juicioso a los documentos emitidos por la Autoridad Aeronáutica Colombiana, y visitas a empresas de aviación que cuenten con un Departamento de Ingeniería bien definido. De esta manera se trata de estructurar, soportar, fundamentar y establecer las funciones y procedimientos, así como definir que su implementación incrementará los niveles de seguridad operacional y disponibilidad de aeronaves.
