La investigación se centra en el estado cuantitativo de Colombia con respecto a la infraestructura del sector educativo, identificando los departamentos con mayor cantidad de instalaciones, tales como colegios, centros de educación superior y bibliotecas públicas. Para esto, se proporciona un índice cuantitativo, el cual identifica si la cobertura de infraestructura educacional a nivel departamental es suficiente, teniendo en cuenta no solo la cantidad de centros educativos, sino también la población y el área de influencia. Lo anterior, enmarcado dentro del proyecto Infraestructura visible de la Universidad de Los Andes. La obtención del índice se realiza a través de un proceso analítico jerárquico (PAJ) y posteriormente una ecuación lineal que refleja las variables investigadas.
