Summary: | This case study research was carried out in order to characterize the perceptions of teachers, managers and students of Jorge Tadeo Lozano University (UJTL) in Bogota regarding the teaching of content subjects in English. The main objective of the research was to characterize and analyze the perceptions of teachers, academic directors, and students to provide recommendations that the University can take as a starting point for the planning, design and guidelines of content subjects taught in English. For the data analysis, the Grounded Theory methodology by Corbin and Strauss (2002), and Charmaz (2006) was followed, and during the analysis, three main categories emerged to characterize the perceptions around content subjects in English. The results of this study show that, for the context of UJTL, a language policy should be built and stipulated, including guidelines for the promotion of English at the university, for the strengthening of English taught subjects, and to establish institutional mechanisms so that academic programs have tools for defining EMI subjects, and follow-up procedures for content teachers who teach in English. Besides, this study is expected to contribute to research on English as a Medium of Instruction (EMI), in higher education in Colombia. |
