Description
Summary:This cross-sectional study analyzes the social gradient of cognitive impairment in Colombia using data from Colombia's aging survey (SABE) 2015. The prevalence of CIWD was 8,9%, and dementia was 10.8%. Taking social position variables (skin color, pension, income, physical capital, education attainment, and literacy) prevalence of CIWD and dementia was higher in the most disadvantaged groups. Multinomial analysis with progressive models showed the associations between social position variables and cognitive impairment in the Colombian population. Adjusting for multiple social variables, CIWD showed a negative association with dark skin color and educational attaintment less than primary and reading literacy. For dementia, models showed statistically significant results for reading literacy and greater dementia risk. For both CIWD and dementia, leisure activities participation showed a protective association.
