Sin embargo, otros suplementos no mostraron ser eficaces.Médico CirujanoPregradoBackground: Telomeres, essential structures located at the ends of our chromosomes, play a crucial role in genomic stability and the aging process. Although their natural shortening is an inevitable part of aging, external factors and diet can influence this process. Despite the increasing popularity of dietary supplements and herbal extracts to promote health and longevity, information on their effect on telomere length is limited and fragmented. Purpose: The primary purpose of this study was to discern how dietary supplements and herbal extracts affect telomere length in adults over 18 years of age. Methods: Through a literature review, experimental studies evaluating the impact of these supplements and extracts in adult humans were examined. Criteria included studies that provided quantitative measurements of telomere length or telomerase activity. Results: Of the 527 articles identified, 37 met the selection criteria. Several supplements were shown to influence telomere length. While some supplements showed promising effects, others showed no detectable impact on telomere length. Conclusions: Dietary supplements and herbal extracts have a diverse impact on telomere length in adults. Some supplements may contribute to the preservation or increase of their length, for example, those with antioxidant effects. However, other supplements were not shown to be effective.application/pdfAttribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 Internationalhttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/4.0/Acceso abiertohttps://purl.org/coar/access_right/c_abf2http://purl.org/coar/access_right/c_abf2AdultosTelomerasaTelomeroSuplementosAdultsTelomeraseTelomereSupplementsW100Efectos de los suplementos dietarios y extractos herbales sobre la longitud del telomero en adultosEffect of dietary supplements and herbal extracts on telomere length in adultsMedicinaUniversidad El BosqueFacultad de MedicinaTesis/Trabajo de grado - Monografía - Pregradohttps://purl.org/coar/resource_type/c_7a1fhttp://purl.org/coar/resource_type/c_7a1finfo:eu-repo/semantics/bachelorThesishttps://purl.org/coar/version/c_ab4af688f83e57aa1.
