Metodología: Se llevó a cabo una revisión narrativa en la cual se tuvo en cuenta artículos científicos y páginas oficiales, incluyendo estudios en idioma español, inglés y portugués y todos aquellos relacionados al objetivo del estudio. Se excluyeron artículos inferiores al año 2009 y no que presentaron relación con la temática. Resultados: Los resultados de esta revisión hacen evidente las dificultades de acceso a la salud y a la atención odontológica en áreas rurales, así mismo muestran la necesidad de implementar nuevas estrategias guías donde intervenga el gobierno y demás entes superiores para el desarrollo y financiación, además que deben suplir todas las necesidades de la población. Conclusiones: Esta revisión presenta las estrategias que se han implementado desde hace años, se muestra la percepción de cada una de ellas y así mismo se ven los errores en el desarrollo de cada una, con el fin de poder dar una evaluación crítica y una idea de cómo implementar nuevas estrategias para generar un impacto positivo en las poblaciones rurales. |

Methodology: A narrative review was carried out in which scientific articles and official pages were consulted, including studies in Spanish, English and Portuguese languages and all those related to the objective of the study. Articles before 2009 were excluded and those that did not have a relation to the subject. Results: The results of this review make clear the difficulties of access to health and dental care in rural areas, as well as the need to implement new guidance strategies including the government and other high authorities for development and financing that could meet all the needs of the population.
