Currently, the best diagnostic tool for evaluating the clinical course and survival of kidney grafts in transplant patients is a biopsy of the transplanted kidney, which will guide treatment and provide a prognosis for kidney function Objective: To histopathologically characterize the pediatric kidney transplant population biopsied at the Cardio-Infantil Foundation between 2014 and 2024. Materials and methods: A retrospective, descriptive, observational study was conducted to characterize the sociodemographic and histopathological characteristics of children who underwent kidney transplant biopsies. The study included 53 patients followed up between 2014 and 2024 at the Cardio-Infantil Foundation. Descriptive statistics were used, with measures of central tendency and dispersion. Results were presented as percentages, means, and standard deviations. Results: Sociodemographic variables of the patients were evaluated, such as age, sex, and BMI. The median age at the time of the biopsy was 13.7 years, with a slightly higher sex distribution for men (54.7%). More than half of the population was classified as eutrophic (52.8%). Regarding the histopathological findings, confirmed rejection in its different forms was the most prevalent category, and the main laboratory indication for performing the biopsy was elevated creatinine. Conclusion: Transplant rejection is one of the main complications found in kidney transplant patients who present with elevated creatinine and/or inflammatory urinalysis. This could be related to a progressive and even irreversible deterioration of kidney graft function. Therefore, this study provides observations that provide valuable elements for optimizing follow-up.application/pdfAttribution-ShareAlike 4.0 Internationalhttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0/Acceso abiertohttps://purl.org/coar/access_right/c_abf2http://purl.org/coar/access_right/c_abf2Enfermedad renal crónicaTrasplante renalBiopsia renalDisfunción del injerto renalChronic kidney diseaseKidney transplantKidney biopsyKidney graft dysfunctionWS 320Caracterización demográfica e histopatológica de los pacientes pediátricos con trasplante renal llevados a biopsia en una institución de cuarto nivel de Bogotá ColombiaDemographic and histopathological characterization of pediatric kidney transplant patients undergoing biopsy at a fourth-level institution in Bogotá, ColombiaEspecialización en Nefrología PediátricaUniversidad El BosqueFacultad de MedicinaTesis/Trabajo de grado - Monografía - Especializaciónhttps://purl.org/coar/resource_type/c_7a1fhttp://purl.org/coar/resource_type/c_7a1finfo:eu-repo/semantics/bachelorThesishttps://purl.org/coar/version/c_ab4af688f83e57aa1.
