description La diversidad íctica del Caribe colombiano, concretamente del departamento de La Guajira, aunque abundante aún carece de estudios concretos y caracterizaciones de biodiversidad, especialmente sobre la diversidad genética de este grupo, generando así la necesidad de crear bases de datos de datos genéticas de referencia y caracterizar la ictiofauna desde un acercamiento taxonómico integrativo entre técnicas moleculares e identificación tradicional. Para esto y por medio de taxonomía integrativa (morfología y molecular empleando secuencias obtenidas de los genes COI y 16S) se identificaron peces colectados en los diferentes ecosistemas marinos y costeros de La Guajira bajo el marco de distintos proyectos y expediciones biológicas realizados por el Instituto de Investigaciones Marinas y Costeras “José Benito Vives de Andréis” – INVEMAR, entre los años 2014 y 2023, obteniendo así 420 muestras de tejidos de peces (larvas y peces adultos), 388 asignaciones taxonómicas y un listado de 100 especies los cuales se dividen en la Alta, Media y Baja Guajira, así aportando al conocimiento de la ictiofauna para el departamento de La Guajira y Caribe colombiano, generando así secuencias de referencia genéticas para todas las especies y generando el primer registro de secuencia para 12 especies, además encontrando inicios de posibles nuevos registros a nivel departamental y nacional para las distintas bases de datos de referencia de peces disponibles.
