Summary:This degree work was carried out in order to propose and implement a teaching alternative that facilitates the development of mathematical skills through the use of teaching material. The work was applied students in grade 7 from the Cardenal Aníbal Muñoz Duque Educational Institution located in the municipality of Santa Rosa de Osos, Antioquia, Colombia. This work has theoretical foundations in different authors who have worked in education, in teaching and in particular in educational research, generating a support for it. The proposal is articulated in three elements, first it raises the teaching from the conceptual in the concepts of perimeter, area and volume, second from the methodology the investigation - action and finally from the model of the levels of van Hiele. In addition, the reflections made by the teacher in the classroom, who is the observer and mediator in the teaching process. Finally, it is important to establish that the proposal has several elements for its development, the use of concrete material (logical blocks, tangram, strips, solids - prisms and pyramids), software - geogebra, this embodied in three guides and two tests that made it possible to systematize and analyze the information of this intervention. The results allowed establishing the scope of the proposal, conclusions and recommendations to take into account for subsequent work
