Description
Summary:This thesis is an approach to the study of politics from Science and Technology Studies (STS); I present a literature review to make the study of politics a case for STS. Then, I make an analysis of the legislative process in the Congress of Colombia taking as entry point the approval of the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with Korea in 2014. This analysis is divided into two parts: first it is analyzed the way the FTA is translated into a matter of public interest in order to be an object of debate and its journey in the legislative process, here rhetoric, quantification and mechanisms of closure are used to understand the path of a bill in the legislative process. Second, it is analyzed how the production of law in the Congress is also producing a boundary that tries to create the separation between society and the state. At this point were relevant three topics: the enrolment of interests in order to gain access for studying the Congress, the study of documents and its performativity to establish who can be part of the legislative process and the assemblage that produces the Congress through its architecture. Finally I make an overview of the possible research directions that this thesis have opened for anyone interested in the studying of politics from a STS informed perspective.
