Colombia enfrenta un desafío clave: transformar su estructura exportadora para lograr un crecimiento económico sostenido. Entre enero y julio de 2024, las exportaciones cayeron un -0,79% en comparación con el mismo periodo del año anterior, y la caída fue más pronunciada (-2,7%) al excluir el petróleo y sus derivados. Este debilitamiento en las exportaciones refleja una tendencia que comenzó en 2015, cuando la caída de los precios del petróleo afectó significativamente los ingresos externos del país. La fuerte dependencia de productos primarios de bajo valor agregado y poca intensidad tecnológica exponen a la economía a los ciclos de la demanda internacional. Además, las exportaciones están concentradas en pocos destinos, principalmente Estados Unidos, y pocos departamentos de origen. Para revertir esta situación se hace necesaria una estrategia que impulse la diversificación de productos, mercados y regiones. Sectores como el turismo, la agricultura y las energías renovables se presentan como oportunidades estratégicas para aumentar la competitividad y reducir la dependencia de los commodities. Con políticas claras y acciones coordinadas entre el sector público y privado, Colombia puede integrarse de manera más sólida en el comercio global y asegurar un crecimiento más inclusivo y sostenible. |

Between January and July 2024, exports fell by -0.79% compared to the same period the previous year, and the decline was more pronounced (-2.7%) when excluding oil and its derivatives. This weakening in exports reflects a trend that began in 2015, when the fall in oil prices significantly affected the country's external revenues. The heavy dependence on primary products with low added value and low technological intensity exposes the economy to international demand cycles. Furthermore, exports are concentrated in a few destinations, mainly the United States, and a few departments of origin. Reversing this situation requires a strategy that promotes the diversification of products, markets, and regions. Sectors such as tourism, agriculture, and renewable energy present strategic opportunities to increase competitiveness and reduce dependence on commodities.
