Una forma de lograr este objetivo es haciendo sus procesos internos mucho más eficientes en términos de mano de obra calificada y tiempos de ejecución cortos. Un ejemplo de esta situación se da en el área de la compresión de gas natural, más específicamente en el transporte a través de los gasoductos y estaciones compresoras de la red nacional, en donde se trabaja con equipos compresores de gas tipo reciprocante, traídos desde el exterior e instalados y operados por mano de obra colombiana. Por este motivo y viendo la necesidad de orientar, tanto a profesionales como a técnicos y estudiantes colombianos, que estén involucrados o que quieran iniciar un estudio en compresores reciprocantes, se desarrolló este documento a partir de la recopilación de información de la industria, los fabricantes, la academia y las normas internacionales, buscando entregar las herramientas básicas necesarias para desarrollar proyectos de selección, instalación y mantenimiento de estos equipos. En este contenido se aprecian partes técnicas a partir del desarrollo de formulas que describen los procesos físicos que se presentan en el gas cuando este es comprimido; cuenta un nivel de terminología altamente técnica de acuerdo a lo que se presenta habitualmente en el sector, pero también se presentan capítulos con información muy practica y de fácil comprensión, que se ha extraído de manuales y otros documentos sencillos, que ayudaran al lector a comprender los principios básicos por los que se rigen los compresores reciprocantes.
