Biodegradable plastics are materials compounded by a polymer matrix and an agro-industrial remnant
which are under investigation due to its properties similar to the synthetic plastic with the difference that they are environmentally friendly
with short half-lives and consequently low accumulation of solids disposal sites. In this project
we synthesized biodegradable film based on polyvinyl alcohol
gelatin
sodium benzoate
glycerol and orange peel performed following the casting method using magnetic mixing
mechanical mixing
and then cured in petri dishes at room temperature in the municipality of Piedecuesta
Santander
with variations in the amount of PVA and the agro- industrial remnant performing measurements of mechanical properties
thermal
water vapor permeability and biodegradability. Once completed the curing process
biodegradable films were obtained with considerable qualitative characteristics similar to synthetic plastics
with good appearance and also with good mechanical
thermal
barrier properties to water vapor and high biodegradability in comparison with those obtained in the literature
which were analyzed as to their utility making these materials suitable to reduce the environmental effect that causes the production of plastics today. i
