RESUMEN : La monografía es un análisis sobre la literatura de los Sistemas de Información Geográfica (SIG) y su aplicabilidad para la historia ambiental y las ciencias sociales. De este modo, se sitúa la discusión a través de autores del ámbito internacional, regional y local para conducir el debate acerca de los alcances y limitaciones de este campo del saber entre los años 2000-2020. Posteriormente, se definen conceptos y se mencionan algunos de los aportes de los SIG como fuentes y herramientas para la investigación en historia ambiental. Todo esto, con el fin de encontrar nuevas explicaciones teóricas y metodológicas que contribuyan a la descripción de los fenómenos ambientales en diferentes espacios y temporalidades. Finalmente, se mencionan algunos “contextos de aplicación” relacionados con el recurso hídrico en los que se implementó el uso de herramientas SIG para la comprensión de las recientes problemáticas ambientales desde un enfoque histórico-ambiental. |

In this way, the discussion is situated through international, regional and local authors to lead the debate about the scope and limitations of this field of knowledge between the years 2000-2020. Subsequently, concepts are defined and some of the contributions of GIS as sources and tools for research in environmental history are mentioned. All this, in order to find new theoretical and methodological explanations that contribute to the description of environmental phenomena in different spaces and temporalities.
