RESUMEN: La investigación surge con el propósito de reflexionar el porqué del marcado desinterés que muestran los estudiantes hacia la matemática, desinterés que se intensifica en la introducción al contenido algebraico, lo anterior constatado en la experiencia de la investigadora y diversas lecturas que lo documentan. Se reflexiona acerca de la naturaleza de la matemática y su incidencia en los procesos de enseñanza, colocándolo como eje clave en la estructuración de la enseñanza matemática, destacando una concepción falible de las matemáticas. Partiendo de esta concepción y con el interés de ganar significaciones más profundas en el tránsito del lenguaje natural al lenguaje simbólico, se hizo un análisis histórico-epistemológico del lenguaje algebraico, el cual aportó herramientas para estructurar y realizar una indagación con estudiantes de grado octavo, lo cual permitió vincular las construcciones que hacían los estudiantes de manera informal para solucionar problemas planteados, con la manera en cómo se estructuró y construyó el lenguaje algebraico. |

It reflects on the nature of mathematics and its impact on teaching processes, concluding as a key axis in the restructuring of mathematical teaching, highlighting a fallible conception of mathematics.
