The treatment had a strong effect by increasing weight at seven days of age (p < 0.05). It was found that there is association between low birth weight condition and higher mortality at the first week of life (p < 0.01). The treatment with a bovine commercial colostrum was effective, specially on the LBWP at seven days of age (p < 0.05).

The treatment with a bovine commercial colostrum was effective, specially on the LBWP at seven days of age (p < 0.05).RESUMEN: En este trabajo, se estudiaron 506 lechones de una granja núcleo colombiana, con el objeto de determinar el efecto sobre el peso a los siete días de vida, de un tratamiento con un derivado comercial de calostro bovino, suministrado al primer día del nacimiento. La condición de bajo peso al nacer (BPN) afecto el peso a los siete días de vida de los lechones, los cuales pesaron significativamente menos que los lechones normales (p < 0,01). El tratamiento con el derivado comercial de calostro bovino, tuvo un fuerte efecto a los 7 días en los pesos de los animales tratados (p < 0,05). Se observó asociación entre la condición BPN y una mayor mortalidad en la primera semana de vida (p < 0,01).
