Por ello, conviene revisar sus propuestas metodológicas y teóricas que, a pesar de sus limitaciones , son básicas todavía para analizar la obra de arte como "hija de su tiempo"ABSTRACT: Hyppolite Taine´s main idea is as transparent as it is indisputable: the understanding of a work of art is only possible if it is related to all the elements that configure its physical, artistic and cultural milieu. Nevertheless, Taine used it in order to formulate a deterministic causal scheme based on natural science. Notwithstanding the great influence exerted by him on his own time, his ideas today are less well know than the criticism they have received.
