description RESUMEN: Este escrito busca mostrar que en el pensamiento de Paul Valéry se recogen los rasgos esenciales de una filosofía atenta a estudiar los factores que han determinado el surgimiento del mundo social. Para este propósito serán examinadas tres ideas a través de las cuales el autor francés interpreta el funcionamiento de la vida a nivel individual y colectivo. La primera es la idea de intercambio que sirve para aclarar cómo los procesos de intercambio social están regulados por un principio de desigualdad. La segunda es la idea de fiducia. Por medio de esta noción se muestra la importancia de la creencia como mecanismo de cohesión social que también vincula el lenguaje. La tercera idea es la del mito que sirve para pensar sobre la necesidad que tenemos de definir una parte sustancial de nuestra vida a partir de lo vago, de lo especulativo y lo imaginativo.

In order to do so, it will examine three ideas that the French author deploys to interpret the functioning of life both at the individual and collective levels. The first is the idea of exchange, which serves to clarify how the processes of social exchange are regulated by a principle of inequality. The second is the idea of fiducia. This notion shows the importance of belief as a mechanism of social cohesion that is also linked to language.
