Se analiza desde diferentes perspectivas, considerando las perspectivas a favor y en contra, ofreciendo una breve revisión histórica que contextualiza su evolución, desde los primeros intentos de conceptualización y tratamiento hasta las definiciones contemporáneas. Además, se discuten las controversias sobre la validez, confiabilidad, la necesidad del uso de etiquetas diagnósticas y la eficacia de los tratamientos disponibles. Estas controversias reflejan la complejidad y la dinámica del campo de la salud mental, enfatizando la necesidad de aproximaciones basadas en la evidencia. Finalmente, se examinan las aproximaciones de la tradición conductual, destacando sus diferencias teóricas y algunos tipos de intervenciones relacionadas, ofreciendo una perspectiva alternativa a los modelos sobre la psicopatología predominantes. |

It is analyzed from different perspectives, considering the perspectives for and against, offering a brief historical review that contextualizes its evolution, from the first attempts at conceptualization and treatment to contemporary definitions. Additionally, controversies regarding validity, reliability, the need for the use of diagnostic labels, and the effectiveness of available treatments are discussed. These controversies reflect the complexity and dynamics of the mental health field, emphasizing the need for evidence-based approaches.
