For its management there are several elements such as saline solution, clorhexidine, aluminium hydroxyl, sucralfate etc.; which can also be mixed with other creating the so called “magic mouthwash”, giving relief to the patient by reducing the symptoms. The present article shows a complete theme report on the subject from generalities and classifications to the different palliative treatments. |

The present article shows a complete theme report on the subject from generalities and classifications to the different palliative treatments.RESUMEN: Alrededor del 40% de los pacientes tratados con quimioterapia presentan lesiones orales debido a los efectos de los agentes quimioterapéuticos que producen una destrucción de las células en proliferación y crecimiento. Entre estas lesiones se encuentran la estomatitis, la xerostomía, la gingivitis, el trismus, la caries dental, la celulitis y principalmente la mucositis. Esta última aparece entre los 5 y 7 días de iniciada la quimioterapia, con un pico máximo entre los 7 y 10 días. La mucositis oral es un proceso biológico dividido en cuatro fases que están clasificadas acorde a los signos y síntomas del paciente. Entre los elementos para su manejo existen variedad de elementos como la solución salina, la clorhexidina, el hidróxido de aluminio, el sucralfato, entre otros, que a su vez se pueden mezclar unos con otros y formar los llamados “enjuagues mágicos”, para dar alivio al paciente al disminuir la sintomatología.
