Sesenta y seis fueron realizadas en pacientes con colecistitis aguda y 63 como cirugía electiva. La mitad de los pacientes fueron menores de 40 años y el 61.6% fueron mujeres con una paridad menor de 3. No hubo diferencia entre los grupos según la edad, sexo, paridad, antecedentes personales y técnica quirúrgica. La morbilidad entre los grupos fue comparable. Entre los pacientes intervenidos durante el episodio agudo se presentaron las siguientes complicaciones: Infección de la herida en el 9%; dehiscencia de la herida en el 1.5%; y colección intraabdominal en el 1.5%. Entre los pacientes electivos se presentó infección de la herida en el 3.1%, y iatrogenia en el 1.6%. El único paciente fallecido pertenecía al grupo de los operados durante el episodio agudo. No hubo mortalidad en los pacientes electivos y en los agudos fue del 1.5%. El promedio de estancias posoperatorias fue igual en ambos grupos:2.1 días. Concluimos que la colecistectomía urgente es un procedimiento seguro y debe realizarse en los pacientes con colecistitis aguda; se disminuye su sufrimiento, el tiempo de la enfermedad y el costo hospitalario. |

Sixty-six procedures were carried out in patients with acute cholecystitis;63 were elective operations. Half of the patients were under 40 years of age and 61.6% were females with parity of less than 3. There were no significant differences between the groups in terms of age, sex, parity, personal background and surgical technique. Morbidity between the groups was comparable. The following complications occurred in patients operated during the acute episodes: Wound infection,9%; wound dehiscence,1.5%; intra-abdominal collection,1.5%. Among patients undergoing elective surgery, there were: wound infections in 3.1%; and iatrogenic lesion in 1.6%. The only patient who died belonged to the group operated during the acute episode. There were no deaths in the patients undergoing elective surgery, and the mortality rate among the acute cases was 1.5%. The average hospital stay after surgery was the same for both groups:2.1days. We conclude that emergency cholecystectomy is a safe procedure and should be performed done in patients with acute cholecystitis.
