RESUMEN: El suicidio es una de las problemáticas actuales de salud pública que vive el municipio de Yarumal (Antioquia), afectando especialmente a la población joven desde hace aproximadamente 30 años, al mismo tiempo, este municipio se enfrenta a problemas socio-políticos como el narcotráfico, el desplazamiento forzado, el conflicto armado, el paramilitarismo, cambios socioeconómicos, entre otras; los cuales, afectan las estructuras sociales de los habitantes, trayendo consigo consecuencias que alteran la vida de los individuos volviéndola inestable. Este ejercicio antropológico del suicidio en Yarumal se hace desde una perspectiva social, apoyada básicamente en la teoría de Durkheim, con un enfoque cualitativo y cuantitativo, y bajo el respaldo de la investigación “Sentido y práctica del suicidio en los municipios de Yarumal y La Unión, periodo 1990-2010”, a través de entrevistas, talleres y observación participativa, se recurrió al trabajo con jóvenes, entidades religiosas, docentes, familiares afectados por el suicidio y a la comunidad en general, con el fin de dar a entender dinámicas socio-culturales frente a la vida, la muerte y el suicidio; el papel que juega la religiosidad en la idea de muerte y de suicidio de la comunidad yarumaleña, especialmente de la población joven; y la percepción del suicidio en sus habitantes. |
