description RESUMEN: El presente trabajo de grado, en modalidad investigativa, para optar al título de Bibliotecóloga, tiene como propósito caracterizar el origen y estado actual de las bibliotecas especializadas en Medellín, en el marco del proyecto “las bibliotecas especializadas y centros de documentación y su incidencia en el ámbito empresarial en la ciudad de Medellín”. Este estudio cualitativo busca recopilar y analizar datos que permitan comprender conceptos, opiniones y experiencias de expertos sobre estas unidades de información. Se presenta el planteamiento del problema, destacando la necesidad de investigar su papel en Medellín, seguido de los antecedentes, que contextualizan el estudio en investigaciones previas, y la justificación de este. Se examinan orígenes, evolución y desafíos mediante un enfoque exploratorio centrado en tres aspectos: reconocer el origen de estas bibliotecas, identificando los períodos históricos de su fundación; caracterizar su estado actual, analizando transformaciones y factores de crisis; e identificar los modelos de gestión aplicados para enfrentar desafíos actuales. La investigación, apoyada en marcos histórico, social, cultural y teórico, utiliza entrevistas, encuestas y análisis documental para recopilar datos sobre el estado actual de estas bibliotecas y las percepciones de expertos. Los resultados se analizan y discuten en relación con hallazgos relevantes, concluyendo con aportes destacados e implicaciones para las bibliotecas especializadas en el sector cultural y empresarial de Medellín.

This qualitative study seeks to collect and analyze data that allow for understanding concepts, opinions, and experiences of experts regarding these information units. The problem statement is presented, highlighting the need to investigate their role in Medellín, followed by the background, which contextualizes the study in previous research, and the justification for it. Origins, evolution, and challenges are examined through an exploratory approach focused on three aspects: recognizing the origin of these libraries by identifying the historical periods of their foundation; characterizing their current state by analyzing transformations and crisis factors; and identifying the management models applied to face current challenges. The research, supported by historical, social, cultural, and theoretical frameworks, uses interviews, surveys, and documentary analysis to gather data on the current state of these libraries and the perceptions of experts.
