For their deposition we varied the bias voltage of the B4C films between –50 and –150 V and for the BCN coatings the nitrogen gas flow from 2% to 12%. A 300-nm thick TiN buffer layer was first deposited to improve the adhesion of all samples. Mechanical properties like hardness, elastic Young Modulus, and adhesion were determined by Nanoindentation and Scratch measurements. Machining test by turning of low alloyed steel bars with burins coated with 16 bilayers, enabled an increment of tools performance of 67% compared with uncoated tools.

Machining test by turning of low alloyed steel bars with burins coated with 16 bilayers, enabled an increment of tools performance of 67% compared with uncoated tools.RESUMEN: Multicapas de B4C/BCN/c-BN fueron depositadas sobre sustratos de acero rápido AISI M2 mediante la técnica del r.f. (13.56 MHz) magnetron sputtering multi-blanco, utilizando blancos de B4C (99.5%) y de h-BN (99.9%) y una mezcla de gas Ar (90%) y N2 (10%). Los recubrimientos se depositaron a una temperatura de 300°C y a densidad de potencia de 7 W/cm2 . Para la deposición del B4C se varió el Bias del sustrato entre –50 V y –150 V, y para los recubrimientos de BCN el flujo del N2 de 2% hasta 12%. Para mejorar la adherencia al sustrato, se depositó para todas las películas, una monocapa de TiN de aproximadamente 300 nm de espesor. Propiedades mecánicas y tribológicas como la dureza, el módulo de Young y la adherencia, fueron determinadas por mediciones de nanoindentación y rayado.
