RESUMEN: El trasplante hepático se ha convertido en la mejor opción de tratamiento para la cirrosis, la falla hepática aguda y algunos tumores, con grandes avances en los últimos años que han permitido obtener resultados muy buenos en la sobrevida a largo plazo de estos pacientes. Las principales complicaciones que se presentan son alteraciones vasculares y de la vía biliar en el injerto hepático, la recaída de la enfermedad de base, la insuficiencia renal, las infecciones oportunistas y, a largo plazo, el desarrollo de síndrome metabólico con enfermedad cardiocerebrovascular y las neoplasias de novo. En la actualidad, en varios centros de alta complejidad del país se realizan trasplantes hepáticos, de ahí que sea importante para la comunidad científica conocer los aspectos más importantes en el cuidado de estos pacientes. |

The great advances of recent years have yielded very good results in the long-term survival of these patients. The main complications that occur are vascular and bile duct alterations in the liver graft, relapses of the underlying disease, renal failure, opportunistic infections, and in the long term development of metabolic syndrome, cardiovascular disease, and new malignancies.
