description RESUMEN: Este trabajo indaga en las vivencias de los desterrados que hoy habitan al norte del Área Metropolitana del Valle de Aburra y conforman la vereda Granizal localizada en el municipio de Bello. Se presenta el recorrido que implicó conocer y entender cómo han sido transformadas las personas que padecieron situaciones de expulsión violenta y cómo frente a estas situaciones ellas crean sentidos de vida e interpretan su historia. Los conceptos de destierro y subjetividad sirven de guías para orientar tanto las descripciones sobre lo que el investigador aprendió de la gente como el análisis reflexivo de los límites y potencialidades de su actividad académica y política en el proceso de recolección de los datos.
