En Colombia cuyo sistema jurídico está emparentado con el Derecho Romano, el uso de la toga fue demandado por representar una forma de colonialismo a través de la justicia y por no corresponder a la diversidad multicultural que predica la Constitución Política de 1991. La Corte Constitucional en decisión C-718 de 2006 manifestó que su uso “no compromete en manera alguna el carácter pluralista de la Constitución”. |

In the words of Giambattista Vico (1774), some individuals are granted the gift of issuing decrees and jurisprudence, the wisdom to contemplate the truth of facts and subject them to the reason of the laws that shape the republics. In Colombia, whose legal system is closely linked to Roman law, the use of the toga was challenged for symbolizing a form of colonialism through justice and not aligning with the multicultural diversity advocated by the 1991 Political Constitution. In Decision C-718 of 2006, the Constitutional Court stated that its use "in no way compromises the pluralistic nature of the Constitution."
