This article analyzes the fictionalized memoirs of Polish Jewish writer Isaac Bashevis Singer and its contribution to the historical narrative about the Jewish communities of Eastern Europe between 1904 and 1935, a period characterized by growing anti-Semitism and the rise of the German National Socialist movement.
