Lozada Barahona, Nelson EnriqueRestrepo Estrada, Camilo ErnestoAmaya Montes, Cesar Luis2025-10-27T16:59:20Z2027-10-252025Amaya Montes, C. L. (2025). This study analyzes the relationship between corporate governance and corporate social responsibility, considering the mediating role of intellectual capital in its human, structural, and relational dimensions, within the context of market stall vendors in Medellín. In this regard, the limited academic attention to marketplaces as economic units, despite their impact on the local economy and their ability to promote sustainability practices and social cohesion, highlights the need to examine how organizational dynamics are configured and materialized within them. Using a quantitative approach, 276 surveys were administered to vendors from four representative marketplaces in the city, and the structural equation modeling technique (PLS-SEM) was applied to validate the proposed model. The results show that corporate governance positively influences corporate social responsibility and that both human and structural intellectual capital act as partial mediators in this relationship, facilitating organizations’ ability to translate corporate governance principles into responsible practices. In contrast, relational intellectual capital did not exhibit a significant mediating effect, which may be attributed to the informality of external relationships in this type of business. The structural model demonstrated a high explanatory capacity, underscoring the relevance of corporate governance and intellectual capital in shaping corporate social responsibility in low-formalization contexts such as marketplaces. This study evidences the role of intellectual capital as a facilitating mechanism between corporate governance and corporate social responsibility and addresses an underexplored setting in academic literature. In doing so, it makes a novel theoretical and empirical contribution by examining these relationships in a scarcely studied context—marketplaces as informal or semi-formal economic units—while expanding the scope of PLS-SEM models replicable in contexts traditionally excluded from academic analysis.Resumen 6 1.
