RESUMEN: El proceso de globalización y las migraciones han impactado en el crecimiento de la diversidad cultural en todo el mundo y esto ha ocupado un papel importante en la atención en salud, ya que cada cultura construye su percepción acerca de los conceptos de salud, enfermedad y muerte, las causas y actitudes hacia estos y los métodos para tratar y cuidar están influenciados culturalmente. La competencia cultural en enfermería implica tener conocimientos, actitudes y habilidades sobre grupos culturales diversos para proporcionar un cuidado culturalmente apropiado de acuerdo con necesidades manifestadas por el paciente y la familia. Esto es un proceso continuo que involucra la aceptación y el respeto de las diferencias y no permite la imposición cultural por parte del personal de salud. Este monográfico analiza la producción científica descrita acerca del cuidado cultural entre los años 2010 al 2022 en las bases de datos y revistas indexadas seleccionadas. Concluye que es necesario adoptar y adaptar modelos de competencia cultural propuestos para el cuidado de pacientes en estado crítico de salud, así como desarrollar trabajos de investigación para afianzar el cuidado cultural en estas áreas. Se resalta que la educación en este aspecto es escasa y con vacíos por llenar, por lo que se hace imperativo abordar este tema y aportar conocimientos, habilidades y herramientas para el profesional de enfermería que trabaja en servicios de alta complejidad como la unidad de cuidado intensivo. |

Cultural competence in nursing involves having knowledge, attitudes and skills about diverse cultural groups to provide culturally appropriate care according to the needs expressed by the patient and family. This is an ongoing process that involves acceptance and respect for differences and does not allow cultural imposition by health personnel. This monograph analyzes the scientific production described about cultural care between the years 2010 to 2022 in selected databases and indexed journals. It concludes that it is necessary to adopt and adapt models of cultural competence proposed for the care of critically ill patients, as well as to develop research work to strengthen cultural care in these areas.
