description RESUMEN: La institución universitaria tiene el compromiso de formar seres humanos integrales, capaces de responder a los desafíos académicos, culturales y económicos que impone el orden nacional e internacional. Esta formación holística del hombre demanda que el currículo universitario fije su atención en la flexibilidad, la interdisciplinariedad y el desarrollo integral. Estas condiciones apuntan a la posibilidad de sobreponernos a los límites disciplinares y a la necesidad de desarrollar estrategias didácticas para logarlo. El currículo, además de asegurar el aprendizaje de los elementos imprescindibles para el profesional calificado, debe garantizar una formación que permita la emergencia del ciudadano crítico. Para llegar a esta meta la universidad requiere profesores que han logrado un sano equilibrio entre la profundidad disciplinaria especializada y una amplia comprensión de la naturaleza humana.

This holistic education demands that the curriculum focuses its attention on flexibility, interdisciplinarity and integration. All these conditions point to the possibility for overcoming disciplinary limits and to the need for didactic strategies to reach this goal. The curriculum, besides ensuring the learning of the essential elements to make a qualified professional, ought to guarantee an education that allows the emergence of the critical citizen.
