A total of 179 buffaloes with 7086 pedigree animals divided in 7 contemporary groups with high genetic connectedness. A Bayesian methodology with Gibbs sampling was used to fit univariate linear models. The marginal posterior mean of the heritability was 0.256 for REA, 0.214 for RFT and 0.353 for W18. Standard error found was low denoting high accuracy in estimates through the methodology used. In conclusion, the heritabilities for W18, REA and RFT and the additive variance show the possibility to make selection for these traits.

El presente estudio, tuvo como objetivo estimar componentes de varianza para tres características de crecimiento en búfalos de 18 meses de edad. Las características analizadas fueron peso (P18), área de ojo del lomo (AOL) y espesor de grasa de cadera (EGC). Se utilizó información productiva de 179 búfalos con una genealogía de 7086 individuos, divididos en 7 grupos contemporáneos con un índice de conectividad alto. Se utilizó una metodología Bayesiana con muestreos de Gibbs, para ajustar modelos lineales univariados. Las medias marginales posteriores de la heredabilidad fueron: 0.256 para AOL, 0.214 para EGC y 0.353 para P18. Los errores estándar para las características fueron bajos (ES < 0.01), denotando una alta precisión en las estimaciones mediante la metodología utilizada.
