De estas mujeres, nueve nunca se han realizado la citología vaginal, las once restantes se la realizan con regularidad. El análisis muestra dos grupos frente a la citología vaginal. Un primer grupo de mujeres tiene como práctica habitual hacerse la citología, aunque sea un procedimiento que causa vergüenza y miedo al dolor, los sentimientos son superados al tener un concepto positivo acerca del examen y estar apropiadas de su cuerpo. En un segundo grupo están las mujeres para quienes la citología vaginal es una práctica no habitual. En este caso, las mujeres tienen una representación social basada en el saber ingenuo o natural sobre lo que se siente al realizarse el examen y sobre los elementos que en él se utilizan, o están apropiadas de su cuerpo y no ven necesario el examen por no tener síntomas. Además, la vergüenza expresada como pena es un sentimiento muy fuerte que no superan y por lo tanto les impide asistir al examen. |

Además, la vergüenza expresada como pena es un sentimiento muy fuerte que no superan y por lo tanto les impide asistir al examen.ABSTRACT: Qualitative study based on the founded theory, tries to explain the cultural conditions that women experiment to have or not a vaginal cytology as a practice of self-care. Twenty interwieus were realized to women between 20 and 50 years old, from different educational level and background. Of these, nine never have had a vaginal cytology, the other eleven had have it done regularly. The analysis shows two groups faced to the vaginal cytology. The first group of woman have as a common practice the vaginal cytology, even though it was for them a moment of shame and fear of pain; but these feelings were surpassed by their pontiff concept about the exam and their appropriation of their body. The second group, was conformed by those women for whom the vaginal cytology was not an habitual practice; they have a representation based un a naïve or natural knowledge about what they may feel going through the exam and the elements used in doing it. The neither have an appropriation of their body, nor see necessary the exam because don't have any symptom. Besides, the shame expressed as "shame" is a strong feeling which they don't surpassed and consecuently do not permit them go through the exam. Key words: Modesty.
