RESUMEN: En este artículo, Alberto Ferrer nos muestra la preocupación como un problema central en la salud mental. Deduce que probablemente ésta es una de las razones del subdesarrollo de nuestros pueblos, ya que existe la influencia cultural que nos inculca la asociación entre la responsabilidad y preocupación. Nos lleva a concluir que si bien la preocupación tiene funciones normales y adaptativas (la alarma ante eventuales amenazas que sirve como anticipación de estrategias de supervivencia), quedarse en ella es algo patológico, ya que genera sufrimiento e inmovilidad. Por tal motivo, resalta la importancia de trabajar con el paciente la terapia cognitiva, la cual ha demostrado estar preparada para enfrentar la preocupación, ese «mal de nuestros días |
