RESUMEN: El presente artículo intenta poner de relieve algunos de los conceptos relacionados con la implementación de la comprensión cultural (CC) en Colombia como medio para adquirir competencias culturales en la lengua extranjera. En este sentido se sugiere que la CC debe partir de la definición de la conciencia de sí mismo (self-awareness) como punto de partida de la definición de identidad. Es importante resaltar asimismo que el concepto de competencia cultural puede ser una fuente de confusión tanto para profesores como para estudiantes a la hora abordar el aprendizaje de la lengua extranjera. Es por esto que Se argumenta que el aprendizaje de una segunda lengua debe tener en cuenta la dimensión cultural de ésta (Risager 1994) en el aula de clase. Una inspección más cercana del tipo de lengua asociada con la CC responde la pregunta central del artículo; ésta se resume de la siguiente manera: ¿Cómo podría abordarse la cuestión cultural en la enseñanza de lenguas extranjeras en Colombia desde una perspectiva global e internacional? |

It is suggested that CU must depart from the concept of self-awareness in terms of the revaluation of our cultural values. In this sense, it will be noticed the way how the concept of ‘competence’ may conspire to mislead teachers’ and students’ action as to what extent the actual learning of the foreign language should involve the inclusion of the cultural dimension of language (Risager, 1994) in the classroom. A close examination of the type of language associated with CU is also made.
