Summary:ABSTRACT: The following article recounts the experience a student-teacher had at their practice site with ninth graders in a public school; the school is located in the heart of Medellin. At this place, he discovered through classroom observations and conversations with his students that a teaching-learning cycle strategy along with a focus on implementing Dee Fink’s Significant Learning Theory, to try to encourage students to change their perception of learning English, and get them to consider this knowledge more than as a school subject, as a life skill that will help them achieve their projects in the future. The main strategy of the teacher in training was to learn more about the group and show genuine interest in their interests and thoughts to show them that English is a tool that allows us to share our ideas and thoughts and have a voice.
