RESUMEN: La formación ciudadana se constituye en un tema de singular importancia en la sociedad y de modo particular en las instituciones educativas. Aunque se trata en efecto de un motivo creciente de preocupación en la actualidad, es preciso tener en cuenta los antecedentes de la ciudadanización y de la formación ciudadana misma como un asunto político, materializado en las instituciones educativas desde los albores de la República. Una de las características principales de la formación ciudadana en Colombia y en otras latitudes, sin duda tiene que ver con los ideales de ciudadanía, movidos en general por intereses ajenos a los ciudadanos mismos y atendiendo en cambio a proyectos de nación impuestos. El presente artículo contiene una ambientación sobre el proceso de ciudadanización en Colombia vía apertura de la participación en las primeras elecciones competitivas en la década de 1830. En él se incluye el tema de la ciudadanía en la educación y se dedica un espacio especial para reflexionar brevemente sobre su desarrollo histórico. |

Eventhough it is a topic of current increasing concern, it is important to keep in mind the precedents of citizenship and citizenship formation as a political issue, existing in schools since the dawn of the republic. One of the main characteristics of citizenship education in Colombia and in other parts of the world, is undoubtly related to the existing ideals of citizenship, moved by interests other than the ones of the citizens themselves. Instead, such interests are looking forward to fullfil already preestablished nation’s projects. The present article gives an introduction to the process of citizenship in Colombian through the participation that took place during the first competitive elections in 1830.
