In this context, smart meters play a crucial role by submitting information of the grid in real-time to a management center and helping the utilities to take decisions. In this thesis it is described the development of a smart meter, from the analysis of the requirements, the design of the different systems, components acquisition, the design of the PCB, firmware structure, up the connection to a database. It is a prototype project that proposes to solve problems such as fraud (stealth), grid failures, energy distribution inefficiency, etc. while offering scalability, proficiency and flexibility of use to the utilities. Its application context is the city of Medellín, Antioquia, and is involved in a master project of the Universidad de Antioquia. |

Las redes eléctricas pueden incorporar estas cualidades para transformarse en una redes eléctricas inteligentes. En este contexto, los medidores inteligentes juegan un papel crucial al enviar información de la red en tiempo real a un centro de gestión y ayudar a las empresas de servicios públicos a tomar decisiones. En esta tesis se describe el desarrollo de un medidor inteligente, desde el análisis de los requerimientos, el diseño de los diferentes sistemas, adquisición de componentes, diseño de la PCB, estructura del firmware, hasta la conexión a una base de datos. Este proyecto es un prototipo que propone resolver problemas como el fraude (robo), fallas en la red, ineficiencia en la distribución de energía, etc. al tiempo que ofrece escalabilidad, rentabilidad y flexibilidad de uso a las empresas.
