RESUMEN: Este artículo aporta reflexiones en torno a una dimensión importante en la teoría y praxis educativa: la identidad y rol del maestro desde la concepción de aquellos que se están formando para desempeñar la profesión. Se parte del hecho de que son tiempos de cambio para el ámbito de la Educación debido a, principalmente fenómenos como la globalización y la virtualización. Estas tendencias han tenido un efecto directo en la actividad de los maestros y sus funciones en la academia, colocándolos en un punto crítico. Nuevas exigencias y desafíos van surgiendo para el gremio, y en esa dinámica, la identidad docente se hace igualmente problemática ¿Qué significa ser maestro hoy en día? este planteamiento puede ser resuelto desde diferentes puntos de vista; desde la legislación vigente referida a ser maestro promovida por el estado, pasando por las elaboraciones de las directivas y gestores de cada institución, hasta el auto concepto que cada maestro tiene de sí mismo. Este estudio en particular pretende, a través de la Teoría de las Representaciones Sociales, mostrar la manera en que los estudiantes de educación superior, específicamente aquellos que cursan la Licenciatura en Educación Física y Deportes de dos universidades privadas ubicadas en el departamento de Antioquia en Colombia, conciben y configuran el rol de ser maestro |

It is based on the fact that there are times of change for the field of Education due to, mainly, phenomena such as globalization and virtualization. These tendencies have had a direct effect on the activity of teachers and their functions in the academy, placing them at a critical point. New demands and challenges arise for the guild, and in that dynamic, the identity of the teacher becomes also very problematic ¿What does it mean to be a teacher today? This approach can be solved from different points of view; from the current legislation referred to the teacher being promoted by the state, going through the elaborations of directives and managers of each institution, up to the self-concept that each teacher has of himself.
