RESUMEN: En esta investigación se dan a conocer los factores que influyen en la presencia de estados de ánimo bajo en los adultos mayores del Centro de Protección Social al Adulto Mayor- Casa de la Divina Providencia de Puerto Berrío, Antioquia. Se optó por la metodología cualitativa basada en el análisis de entrevistas semiestructuradas de las cuales los focos principales fueron; La familia, las actividades, el cuerpo, creencias religiosas y la muerte. Las entrevistas se realizaron a cuatro adultos mayores institucionalizados en el centro geriátrico, de los cuales dos son hombres y dos mujeres. En primera instancia se pretendía investigar si el apoyo social era determinante para la depresión, no obstante, en el transcurso de la investigación se pudo evidenciar que existen otros factores que intervienen en ella como lo es el deterioro del cuerpo y los afectos que ello produce. |

The interviews were conducted to four elderly institutionalized at the geriatric Centre, of which two are men and two women.
