RESUMEN: Se realiza un estudio prospectivo descriptivo, entre enero de 1996 y enero de 1997, en el cual se presenta el seguimiento de 514 pacientes sometidos a colecistectomía laparoscópica. Básicamente se pretende hacer un acercamiento al índice de complicaciones y efectos adversos que se presentan en nuestro medio y establecer cuál es la rata de conversión a cirugía abierta, para tener datos comparativos con la literatura mundial, basados en una muestra representativa. De los 514 casos recolectados,434 (84.4%) fueron mujeres y 80 (15.6%), hombres; la edad promedio fue de 45 años (6 a 92 años), y se realizaron 442 cirugía selectivas (86%) Y 72 de urgencia (14%). No existen diferencias significativas con la literatura mundial en las diferentes variables analizadas, en cuanto a morbi-mortalidad ni conversión a cirugía abierta, pero sí fue llamativo el hecho de no tener ninguna lesión de la vía biliar. Hubo conversión a cirugía abierta en el 6.8% y una incidencia general de complicaciones del 4.8%, siendo la más importante la infección de la herida quirúrgica, hechos que concuerdan con las grandes series mundiales. Fue de significación estadística, el hecho de ser hombres o de presentar colecistitis aguda para la conversión a cirugía abierta. |

Based on a representative sample, our purpose was to study the complications rate and adverse effects of the procedure in our environment, and to establish the rate of conversion to open cholecystectomy, so as to have data for comparison with the international literature. There were 434 (84.4%) women and 80 (15.6%) men in the group of 514 recruited patients. Mean age was 45 years (6 to 92 years). Four hundred and forty two operations (86%) were done electively and 72 (14%) in an emergency setting No significant differences were found with the world literature, being remarkable that no lesions of the biliary duct were registered. Conversion to open operation occurred in 6.8% of all cases, and the general complications rate was 4.8%. Most frequent complication was infection of the surgical wound. The findings are similar to those reported in the large series of the world literature.
