RESUMEN: La historia de la mujer en Colombia ha sido un objeto de interés en los y las historiadoras de los últimos años, reconocer la importancia y la presencia de la mujer durante los procesos históricos y brindarles un espacio es hoy menester para completar ese cuadro inconcluso que es el pasado. En el presente artículo bajo esta misión se aporta una aproximación a la historia de las mujeres de nuestro país en un período y región tan importantes como fue Santander a mediados del siglo XIX, en un momento histórico de cambios y movimientos sociales y políticos que, de una u otra manera involucraron a la mujer. Mediante el acercamiento a diversa fuente de época el propósito es tratar de comprender el deber ser que se tenía de la mujer, cuál era el marco en el que la mujer debía encajar y cumplir su rol social, descubriendo mediante la comparación de fuentes los imaginarios sociales y las realidades cotidianas de la mujer santandereana y en particular las de Vélez. Se evidencia la importancia que tuvieron los oficios y artesanías manuales en la vida y costumbres de las mujeres de la región, el impacto cultural y económico en su nivel de vida, logrando un cierto grado de soltura económica sin dejar de lado sus obligaciones sociales y religiosas de las cuales nunca escaparon. |

In the present article under this mission we provide an approximation to the history of the women of our country in a period and region as important as Santander was in the mid-nineteenth century, in a historical moment of changes and social and political movements that, One way or another they involved the woman. By approaching the various sources of the epoch, the purpose is to try to understand the duty of women, what was the framework in which women should fit and fulfill their social role, discovering through the comparison of sources the social imaginaries and the daily realities of the Santanderean woman and in particular those of Velez.
