| Summary: | Objectives: To describe the prevalence of Dynapenic Abdominal Obesity (DAO) in older Colombian adults and analyze its associations with health, functional performance, and falls. Methods: A cross-sectional study from the SABE Colombia Survey, including 4956 individuals (58.0 % women). Abdominal obesity (AO) was defined as waist circumference 88 cm in women and 102 cm in men. Dynapenia (D) was defined by handgrip strength <27 kg in men and <16 kg in women. Results: DAO prevalence was 17.7 %, being higher in women than men (23.8 % vs. 8.2 %, p < 0.00), and increasing with age. Adults aged 80 years had 4.9 higher DAO odds. Multimorbidity and polypharmacy increased DAO odds by 3.5 and 1.6, respectively. DAO was associated with lower gait speed and limitations in the Short Physical Performance Battery, but not with falls. |
