Summary:Introduction: The use and knowledge of the contraceptive methods in teenagers differs in many ways. The above is directly related to education, the accessibility of information and the sociodemographic conditions that characterize them. Objective: To determine the knowledge and practices about the contraceptive methods that teenagers in the last grade of an educational institution in Monteria follow, in order to propose educational strategies on sexual and reproductive health promotion oriented to this population. Tools and methods: It is a descriptive research based in a quantitative approach, carried out on teenagers in the last grade of an educational institution in the city of Monteria. The information was collected through a survey of 28 closed questions. For this survey a total of 59 adolescents participated, chosen through inclusion and exclusion criteria. Results: The knowledge and practices about the contraceptive methods that teenagers possess is very scarce. This could negatively influence their sexual and reproductive health. In conclusion: The results of this research allowed us to know the shortcomings that teenagers have when it comes to being informed and at the moment of using contraceptive methods.
